This is a simple little tip to give a link in a WordPress menu a “target” element in the WordPress menu editor.
While on the Menus page (under Appearance section) in the WordPress admin section, click the Screen Options button at the top right of the screen.
Click the Link Target checkbox.
Now you can set the “target” element in the dropdown for the menu item.
See, I told you it was easy!

Hey Keith, I can’t find it. What action would we have to be doing so that this option comes up? I’d thought it would be while trying to write a new post but I didn’t see it there.

Sorry for the confusion. This would be on the Menus page (under the Appearance section) in the WordPress admin section. I can see how the post may have been confusing and I just updated it to clear it up. Thanks for the feedback!

Menus are mostly used in a lot of prebuilt WordPress themes for admins to add pages to a navigation bar. Let me know if that doesn’t make sense.
Okay… that doesn’t make sense. lol Don’t most of us use pre-built themes, or am I being too literal?

Mitch, some WordPress 3.0 themes come with customizable menus that allow admins to make changes to their nav menus in the WordPress admin section. Some changes could be adding pages, sub-pages, or posts to nav menus in a theme.
Before WP 3.0, admins had to rely on their theme or manually change the code to modify menus.
