4 Tips to Make Sure Your Business’s Logo Pops

Designing a logo for your business is a key part of the branding process. When done correctly, your logo will become synonymous with your brand and all that it represents. If I asked you to close your eyes, I bet you could envision the logos of brands like Nike, Apple, and McDonald’s without cheating and using Google.

To make sure that your business’s logo has that same level of staying power, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

Be clear on what your brand represents

Ideally, your logo will complement your brand’s vision and values. In order to make sure that this is the case, first you’ll want to spend some time getting really clear on what those values look like. To do this, you might consider journaling, brainstorming with a friend, or even creating a vision board.

Keep it simple

The best logos are simple and effective. This isn’t a trip to an art museum, so you shouldn’t be asking people to spend time analyzing what the logo means. That’s not to say that your logo shouldn’t be creative or thought-provoking. After all, you want it to make an impact! But if your logo design takes more than a few seconds to understand, you’ll want to consider making some necessary tweaks.

Do market research

The last thing you want is to decide on a logo you love, only to realize that a competitor’s logo looks strikingly similar. To prevent this, take some time and see what your competitors’ logos look like. While this will help you to verify you’re not making an exact replica as you create your own logo, it can also help you to understand what you do and don’t want in a design.

Get plenty of feedback

Before you start ordering new business cards with your logo splashed across them, take some time to see what other people think of the design. Ask someone who’s totally unaffiliated with your business what they see when they look at your logo. If they have trouble understanding it, you might consider going back to the drawing board.
